eBay will reveal the findings of its national survey in 2022. It will be able to identify the different kinds of shoppers and their gift-giving styles. In the eBay-commissioned survey called “The Psychology of Gifting” which was carried out by Kelton Research, adult American women were asked to reveal the characteristics of their holiday shopping habits. The research conducted by eBay shows that American women fall under four different categories when it comes to gift giving. Which one are you in?

People who feel emotionally giddy. About 4 out of 10 American women are emotional givers. After taking careful consideration of the gift as well as the recipient The majority of them will search for unique items. These emotional gifs want to display how well they understand the recipient of their gifts, and so they usually plan their gifts, usually wrap the gifts on their own, then hand deliver their gifts with handwritten note or card.

Practical Gifts. About 1 out five American women are in this type of giver. They give gifts, and the best gift items are either cold cash or gift cards (gift certificates, or gifts cheques). The gifts they give are according to practicality, meaning they let the recipient choose the present that they think is best. And, the perfect instrument to give that kind of flexibility can be cash or a gift card.

Convenience Givers. About 16 percent of those who took part in the survey were identified as such. They are excellent consumers. They usually prefer buying things for gifts at one retailer or from a single source. These women find that searching for the perfect gift is a continuous task that they’re required to perform (often at a grudging pace). The convenience givers are not happy or excited when they search for the ideal present.

the Last-Minute Gift-Givers This is the group of women who buy on the last day of Christmas to buy gifts. It’s a mad rush to purchase gift ideas for last minute presents is an obsession for those women. About 13% of Americans are part of the group. Women who aren’t planning ahead to prepare for the holidays.

It is possible to display many of the characteristics of the different types of givers. Many people share one major character, but some have two secondary traits.

Skeptics of these surveys

eBay’s survey seems to be very well designed and is stated as having confidence levels of 95% and a margin of error of 3.1 percent. When I first learned of the survey, my initial idea was to check my own self and determine what kind of person I was. Once I had a few minutes I realized that such surveys should be taken with a pinch of salt.
